Meet Dr. Nanci Stafford, MSW, LCSW, EdD
Dr. Nanci Stafford (Nanci) began her career in 1992 after she graduated from Florida State University with a bachelor's and master's degree in social work. She was licensed in the state of Florida as a clinical social worker, which allowed her to provide clinical therapeutic services to individuals, families, and couples. She was the director of an award-winning intensive in-home program and later worked in the school system as a liaison for families and schools.
In late 1997, Nanci moved to North Carolina and continued to work for the Iredell County school system. Soon after her move, she had two beautiful children. Advancing her career, she began teaching social work in college. Wanting to further her education, she embarked to seek her doctorate and in 2023, she graduated with a doctorate in higher education leadership.
Currently, Nanci owns and operates Stafford & Associates Counseling where she provides clinical services to those seeking to create a more healthy and happy life. She has a passion and deep commitment to her clients. She is always seeking ways to understand and implement theoretical approaches.
Dr. Stafford is a licensed clinical social worker in North and South Carolina. She is also certified in EMDR and Schema Therapy. She believes that it is vital she cares for herself so that she can care for you!
For fun, Nanci grew up sailing and still enjoys the water, especially the Gulf Coast of Florida. She is a HUGE Florida State University Seminole FAN and loves to watch college sports!
She has a furry best friend named Brody. (You just might see him in the office).
Some people ask, “What is a clinical social worker?”
A social worker who holds a master’s or doctoral degree in social work from an accredited school of social work in addition to at least two years of post-masters supervised experience in a clinical setting. The social worker must be licensed, certified, or registered at the clinical level in the jurisdiction of practice. A clinical social worker provides direct services, including interventions focused on interpersonal interactions, intrapsychic dynamics, and life management issues. Clinical social work services are based on bio-psychosocial perspectives. Services consist of assessment, diagnosis, treatment (including psychotherapy and counseling), client-centered advocacy, consultation, evaluation, and prevention of mental illness, and emotional, or behavioral disturbances.
That all sounds technical, however, the best way to understand what I do is to view it as a process of relational connections in a private, confidential office where you can work on personal issues you are experiencing.
