About This Resource: This interactive card deck introduces the schema modes model, the moment-to-moment emotional states that schema therapy uses to describe how people experience and react to their core schemas. Modes are organized into four groups: vulnerable child modes (the raw, young feeling-states we’re all born with), maladaptive coping modes (protective strategies such as surrender, avoidance, or overcompensation that develop to manage painful feelings), dysfunctional parent modes (internalized critical or demanding voices), and the healthy adult mode (the balanced, capable part that can meet needs directly). Each card pairs a felt-sense description with plain-language notes on where the mode comes from and a direction toward healing. A client psychoeducation resource from Stafford & Associates Counseling.
